My Quilt Block Challenge...

I was in Joann's last night and this Quilt Block of the Month program caught my eye. I have always wanted to do a pieced quilt, but hated the idea of all the cutting. This seemed like a great solution, I liked the pattern, the colors and especially the idea that it was all precut. All I have to do is piece it all together one block at a time. I like challenges and this being done one block a month is right up my alley. I bought the first block set which actually is putting together 4 blocks for the month. I am starting 4 months into the year so I will need to do more 3 more block sets this month to get caught up in order to finish it by December.

This is what it will look like (hopefully) when I finished.

First Block set.

All the pieces to the block.

The center piece to the block.

First finished block, just 3 more just like this to go for the first block set. I have been sewing for over 30 years and I will tell you that putting this together is not as easy as it would seem. You have to be totally accurate. 1/4" seams and piecing the rows together the seams must match up perfectly or it will look funny. I have  a new found respect for the avid quilter, piecing and sewing perfect rows!

  2. This looks like it's going to be such a pretty quilt. I am kinda...KINDA..in the mood to do one. I would like one for my king bed but it has to be O SO SIMPLE as I can't sew very good. Never really learned. I love the colors you are using.:)

    Thanks, girl, for following me..
I am going to follow you right back;:))
Good luck on winning my sign giveaway. I will draw the name on the night of the 15th and post the winner on the 16th.

  4. Sounds like the perfect project to get hooked! Most quilts are strip cut, so they're actually really easy to cut using a rotary cutter, mat and big acrylic rulers. I do have friends that cut everything by hand, but they're purists with waaaay too much time on their hands!

  7. I don't make quilts myself, but I spent my summers at a quilter's studio. My mom used to cut, pin, and tie for an acclaimed quilter so I have great fondess and respect for the craft.Love your color selection.

  8. I love that red fabric, and that first block is beautiful! I've always felt that if someone would just do all of the cutting out for me, I would sew a whole lot more!
    Happy REDnesday,
